Jessica L. Merchant was born and raised in Minot, North Dakota. Ms. Merchant graduated from Bishop Ryan High School in 1999. Ms. Merchant obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in History from the University of North Dakota in 2003 (cum laude), and her Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) from Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in 2007, and was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in 2007.

Ms. Merchant is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar Association of North Dakota, the Ward County Bar Association (past President), and the Minot Sunrise Rotary Club (current President).

Ms. Merchant has a general practice, but is primarily engaged in practice in the areas of oil and gas, real estate (including minerals), estate planning, probate, contracts, commercial transactions, banking and business organizations and planning.

Jessica is married to Michael Merchant.  They have a daughter, Ava, and a Weimaraner, Frankie.
